I started looking into joining a CSA a couple of years ago for a few reasons. I thought it would help me get out of a cooking rut and encourage my family to try new foods, the convenience of having it delivered to my door, supporting local agriculture, and getting organic, pesticide free fruits and vegetables. I became a member with Nextdoorganics. What I loved about it was that you could choose your package size and change your order week to week. You could skip weeks if you were going to be on vacation or just didn’t need to receive a package that week. You can add fruit packages, eggs, dairy, pantry items, and meat as you want.
Where does the food come from? They source from small scale and socially responsible farms. Learn more about their sourcing practices here. I love the peace of mind of knowing where the food my family is eating comes from and that it is safe.
There are pick up locations and home delivery options in Brooklyn and Manhattan Monday through Saturday. The day before your scheduled day, you will get an email list of what you can expect in your package (and it will help when you get something that you say “WHAT IS THIS?” lol). We get a medium plus package weekly for me, my husband, and daughter.
I love getting my daughter involved in food and cooking. She loves helping to sort and label our CSA goodies. The more involved they are, the more likely they are to eat it!
